IGN: One of those GCN rereleases for Wii is Pikmin. We just want to clarify that this is not Pikmin 3 that Miyamoto referenced at E3 2008.

Good to hear. So we are getting Pikmin 3 after all. Guessing that they’re making an emphasis on the re-release of Pikmin to get some exposure for the brand for when Pikmin 3 is released.

Pikmin is coming to the Wii! Hoo-ray!

This is not a new game however, it is a remake of the old Gamecube game with revised controls and possibly improved graphics. This sounds like a typical Nintendo move – getting the most out of a product. Think Super Mario 64 DS, Diddy Kong Racing DS, Master Quest, Link to the Past on GBA. However Pikmin was a game many people didn’t get a chance to play on the Gamecube (myself included), as it was an often overlooked launch title which was in fact a great game, so this is a great chance to get to play it.

Pikmin is just one game in Nintendo’s new Wii De Asobu Selection lineup, which translates to “Play on the Wii Selection.” This series will consist of GameCube games updated with Wiimote controls.

Seven titles are currently on the way for the lineup. Donkey Kong Jungle Beat kicks things off on December 11, and will be followed by Pikmin on December 25. In 2009, Nintendo plans on releasing Chibi Robo!, Pikmin 2, Mario Tennis GC, Metroid Prime, and Metroid Prime 2 Dark Echoes.

More typical Nintendo stuff then.
